I probably should ask my doctor this, but I just thought about it.

Why is it that people with heart problems are told not to have high salt diets and we are told to increase our salt intake?  I have a heart condition as well and while AI was in the hospital the cardiologist had me on a low sodium diet?

CONFUSING....... Rolling Eyes

hmmm... i will have to look into that. usually i thought people were told to eat low sodium to lower blood pressure... we are told to eat a lot to raise our blood pressure.

Nicole, I'm so glad you brought this up. Because I, too, have a few heart problems and I've heard that for that reason we're not supposed to have a lot of salt BUT with the Dysautonomia we have to have LOADS of it...so much so that my doc tells me older people would go into congestive heart failure. Razz

I looked into it and it says people with higher salt diets are more likely to have serious heart problems or die of cardiovascular probs but how can we NOT have salt when we absolutely need it for one thing but it could damage our hearts even worse? It seems like a lose/lose situation here. But it also says only some people are sensitive to salt and will have worse problems with their heart if they have a high intake of it. But then other sites say that all people are at risk if they have a high intake of salt...

Maybe someone else can shed some more light on this!

Maybe that only applies to people that have "normal" or "high" blood pressure? Totally unsure about this.  Confused

i think it has something to do with the fact that it clogs up their arteries.
my mom has high cholesterol, so she's not supposed to have a lot of salt.
they are starting to watch mine as well, because they're worried of the outcome later in life.
paige is right... lose/lose situation! but that's always the case unfortunately! can't fix somethin without screwin somethin else up  Rolling Eyes
