Soon I will be having my first visit to a Gastro doctor and I'm not sure what to expect. I know I'm going to be having a colonoscopy done to see what is truly going on with me. Looking up all of my symptoms online is scary because it all seems to point to Chron's Disease or colon cancer so I'm tired of wondering, I'm finally going to find out soon. They are calling today to see when my appt will be. I am going to be doing stool sample tests and bloodwork, too. Just any tests I can for my peace of mind.

I was wondering what the prep was for a colonoscopy, your whole experience with having it done, and any experiences you can share about visiting the GI! I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks guys!

Paige,

the prep sucks!!!!  I had to drink a gallon of this stuff called go lytely.  That is a understatement.  I had gastritis.  I also had a EGD that is where they go through your esophagus.  That is what showed the gastroparesis.  I hope all goes well.

okay here is my experience! not a pleasant one i might add!

i was kept in the hospital for four days back in july to run a lot of tests. endoscopy, colonoscopy, stool samples, blood work, x-rays, etc. i was diagnosed with IBS, GERD, hiatal hernia, erosion of esophagus, two tares in my stomach, inflammation of the intestines (elevated white blood cell count with that), and possible GP.

colonoscopy: well you have to drink the liquid. it tasted like really salty water to me. it wasn't that bad like everyone was telling me. it took about an hour for it to kick in. wheni had drank half of the container of it i started to get really nauseous so they gave me a shot of phenogren in the hip. i continued to drink the stuff. i had not slept in over 24 hours plus the phenogren so i started to get really tired. i took a small nap. then i had to finish the liquid. that is when the real trouble started. i was fine until i had to go to the bathroom again. i started vomiting the stuff back up and there was even a little bit of blood mixed in with it. i fainted and a lot of nurses had to come in there to help me out! i didn't drink any more stuff and i was given another shot. i then started getting RLS on my entire left side then it went to my right side so they gave me meds for that. so, i was all drugged up and out of it. then they took me down for the colonoscopy. they drugged me up for that too. i don't remember anything about that day. i don't even remeber being discharged or coming home. i basically slept for over 24 hours. everything from the colonoscopy came back fine though. they did take biopsies of me from the colonoscopy and endoscopy. all were fine.

Thanks for all of the information guys!

I definitely need to do all those tests you had, Sarah. I've only had a bronchoscopy which showed a compressed trachea and I need to go a lot further than that...I just know more things are wrong. It's just my gut instinct. Or maybe it's just that I'm scared that something is and it could be nothing but I definitely want to get EVERYTHING done. I probably wouldn't if we hadn't met my deductible on my insurance so anything I get done...my insurance pays for it. So, that's the only thing that worried me was my parents being out of money so I'm just really thankful about that.

I'm so sorry you had such a rough time with everything Sarah! Do they tell you not to take your meds and fast with all of that? If so, I know for sure that I'm going to be passing out and having serious problems.  Sad But I'll do whatever it takes to get the full check up for my peace of mind and to find out what's truly going on. Googling symptoms is a no-no I've found out.  Razz Because apparently I could be dying or have GP or have colon cancer or Chron's disease haha! So, I'm sooo done with google!! Atleast, I'm trying to be done with google. Oh goodness.

But thanks you guys! This is all so helpful and I really appreciate it!

I hate drinking stuff.......I'm so picky and I vomit easily so I know that drink is probably going to make me sick. But I gotta do what I gotta do I guess! Smile Love you guys!
