i have applied through the VA but it is now a battle!!! _________________ POTS, NCS, IBS, GERD, hiatal hernia, erosion of esophagus, inflammation of the intestines, possible GP, anemia, hypovolemia, refractive error hypermetropia, multiple sleep disorders, bladder dysfunction, and others...
yes, i applied for disability months ago. they denied me three times and two months ago they sent me a letter in the mail saying they would let me know 20 days prior to my court date and i haven't heard anything. so, a few weeks ago i finally got a lawyer and she's helping me but still no court date.
it's been terribly hard because basically for over a year i've had no job. my mom has had to quit her job to stay with me to make sure i don't hurt myself when i pass out or have a seizure and my dad is the only one working. so, going from a 3 income fam to 1 is really something...
i just pray when i get my hearing that i get approved. i will keep fighting until i do. there's just no way i could work. it's impossible.
plus here in mississippi dysautonomia isn't in the list of things you can get disability for having. so, we're basically having to go with the seizures. but since they are not epileptic seizures it's even harder. but i can talk about my symptoms of dysautonomia, mitral valve prolapse, etc....but dysautonomia isn't anywhere on the list so you have to fight that much harder for the disability.
it's wearing me out just thinking about it. _________________ Whitney Paige

pots-chiari malformation-sleep paralysis-to name a few disorders.....
I first applied for disability while I was fighting Hodgkins disease. Got it, no problem. They re-evaluated me last year and boy oh boy was that a nightmare! I didn't have Hodgkins any longer so they felt I should go back to work. In the meantime though I was diagnosed with pots, fibromyalgia, svt, insomnia, etc.... I was denied and had to do the lawyer thing.... She recommened I see a psychiatrist she knows, and we went from there. Dysautonomia is not a qualification for benefits here either so I had to go with anxiety, insomnia, depression, etc..... *all in my head stuff*.....Makes me mad that I have to do that, when that's not the problem. Anyhoo, I won at my hearing, but they WILL re-evaluate me again in 2 years. All it does is add stress, cost money, and wears you out trying to fight for it. But if you're like me, you have to!
Good Luck to anyone who is fighting for disability based on dysautonomia!!
